Our Mission

CleanFluffClub exists to give pet owners honest, useful recommendations for cleaning and care products. We're not here to sell you the most expensive option or push affiliate links. We're here to solve your actual problems with products that actually work.

This page explains how we test, evaluate, and choose what to recommend.

Our Testing Process

Real-World Testing

We don't rely on manufacturer claims or lab tests alone. We test products in actual homes with actual pets:

  • Multi-pet households with dogs and cats
  • Various surfaces: carpet, hardwood, tile, upholstery
  • Real messes: Accidents happen naturally in test homes
  • Different climates: Humidity and temperature affect performance

Controlled Testing

For fair comparisons, we create standardized test scenarios:

  • Artificial urine samples on carpet squares (same volume, same dwell time)
  • Hair collection tests on upholstery
  • Odor elimination trials with controlled contamination
  • Durability testing of tools and brushes

Long-Term Evaluation

Some products fail after a few uses. We use recommended products for minimum 30 days before finalizing recommendations:

  • Does it hold up to repeated use?
  • Do results degrade over time?
  • Are there hidden maintenance issues?
  • Does the price-per-use remain reasonable?

Our Evaluation Criteria

Effectiveness (40% of score)

Does it solve the problem? This is weighted heaviest because nothing else matters if the product doesn't work.

  • Enzyme cleaners: Do they eliminate odor permanently?
  • Deshedding tools: Do they actually reduce shedding?
  • Odor eliminators: Do they remove smell or just mask it?

Value (25% of score)

Is the price justified by performance? We calculate:

  • Cost per use
  • Longevity of the product
  • Price compared to alternatives

A $50 product that lasts 5 years may be better value than a $10 product that breaks in 3 months.

Safety (20% of score)

Is it safe for pets, people, and surfaces?

  • pH-neutral formulations preferred
  • No toxic ingredients (especially for cats)
  • Surface compatibility testing
  • Safety data sheet review for chemical products

Ease of Use (15% of score)

Does the average person actually use it correctly?

  • Clear instructions
  • Reasonable effort required
  • Not overly time-consuming
  • Stores conveniently

A product that works perfectly but sits in a closet because it's a pain to use gets a lower score.

Our "Sniff Test" Rating System

Every product we review gets a 1–5 paw rating based on our criteria:

🏆 5 Paws: Exceptional. Best in class, worth the price, solves problem completely. 4 Paws: Very good. Minor limitations but solid recommendation. 3 Paws: Adequate. Works but has notable drawbacks or better alternatives exist. 2 Paws: Disappointing. Works poorly, overpriced, or has significant issues. 1 Paw: Avoid. Doesn't work, unsafe, or outright scam.

We don't give 5 paws easily. A product has to genuinely impress across all criteria.

How We Handle Affiliate Links

CleanFluffClub participates in affiliate programs (primarily Amazon Associates). This means:

  • We earn a small commission if you buy through our links
  • This costs you nothing extra
  • It helps fund our testing and content

Our commitment:

1. Affiliate status never influences ratings. A product's rating depends solely on testing results. 2. We recommend non-affiliate alternatives when appropriate. If the best product isn't available through our affiliate program, we still recommend it. 3. We disclose affiliate relationships. You see this notice on every page with affiliate links. 4. We don't accept paid placements. No manufacturer pays us for favorable reviews or placement.

Products We Don't Review

We skip categories where we can't provide genuine value:

  • Prescription products — We're not veterinarians
  • Regional/local products — Our audience is national/global
  • Products with insufficient reviews/data — Can't verify claims
  • MLM or direct-sales products — Business model concerns

Corrections and Updates

Products change formulations. Companies get acquired. New information emerges.

Our update policy:

  • Review all articles quarterly for accuracy
  • Update immediately if we learn a product has changed or been recalled
  • Note the "Last Updated" date at the top of every article
  • Welcome reader feedback on product changes we might have missed

Email corrections to: hello@cleanfluffclub.com

Reader Testing Program

We occasionally recruit readers with specific pet/surface situations for expanded testing:

  • Multi-cat households for litter testing
  • Heavy shedders for grooming tool testing
  • Previous pet damage for enzyme cleaner testing

The Bottom Line

We take product recommendations seriously because you're dealing with real messes in real homes. Our testing is designed to answer one question: "Will this actually solve your problem?" When we recommend something, it's because we believe it will.
